The BBPA has always been a supporter of youth through initiatives such as the Orian Youth Foundation and the Youth Affairs Portfolio. The Youth Affairs portfolio was revamped and launched as the Young Professional portfolio in February 1996 to meet the needs of aspiring young adults.

Young Black adults have unique pressures in addition to the many challenges that face the Black community as a whole. The BBPA-YP brings together young black adults who have an interest in fostering new business relationships, networking with other aspiring adults and those wishing to make a difference in the Black community.

The BBPA-YP portfolio addresses the BBPA’s mandate of “encouraging young black people to pursue entrepreneurship, higher education, professional excellence and economic empowerment”.

Our objectives are:

• To address the needs of aspiring young adults through personal and professional development seminars or workshops
• To inspire, motivate and mentor youth in the Black community
• To be an active voice on issues facing young black adults particularly regarding business and economic matters

Professional Development
BBPA-YP encourages its members and other young Black adults to continually develop their skills by organizing educational and development training workshops and seminars.

Career Advice & Mentoring
BBPA-YP members volunteer their services to assist with various organizations’ and institutions’ Career Days and mentoring initiatives, in addition to motivational speaking at high schools, universities and churches.

Community Involvement
The BBPA-YP community outreach includes organizing fundraising events for charity and charitable causes. BBPA-YP has provided donations to schools abroad as well as to local groups such as Each one Teach One.

Represented by the BBPA-YP, the BBPA is one of the principal organizations in the National Black Alliance. The Alliance is a collective of young professional associations that have joined together to work towards common fundraising and networking goals.
